That saying is old old old going at least back to Chaucer (1343-1400):

> For Solomon says that `idleness teaches a man to do many evils.'

I've always heard it as "Idle hands are the devil's workshop", but that's perhaps a bit too much puritan work ethic in my birth culture

I read this because I was bored.
